It is here that our beloved and sacred Ganga river after passing through the Himalayas touches the plain the first time.
The power and significance of the aarti in here is of utmost importance. The aarti happens twice in a day once in the morning when the sun rises and the second time during the sunset. Thousands of devotees stand near the ghat with their hands clasped together, it’s the most beautiful sight to watch. One can also hear the tinkling of the bells.

This aarti is performed at the har-ki-Pauri ghat which was built by king Vikram in the 1st century. The rays of the mighty sun reflect off the boundless waters of the river Ganga. Songs, prayers, rituals and palpable sense of divinity is all around. This place is lit up with thousands of diya’s and lamps which are wishes for some and thanksgiving token for some.

It’s one of the most sacred ghats in Haridwar. This ghat is visited by devotees to seek the blessings of the Holy Ganga. It’s the place where River Ganga flowing through the mighty Himalayas touches the plain for the 1st time. Again, the Har-ki-Pauri is dominated by the chants of numerous mantras and lightening of various diyas and candles. One can find large number of temples here.
Chandi Devi Temple
This temple is dedicated to the Chandi devi and is located on the top of Neel parvat on the eastern summit of Sivalik hills. The Chandi devi temple was built in 1929 by the king of Kashmir. It’s a very famous piligrimage and gathers devotees from all over the world. Trekking lovers can also come here as one needs to trek the top of the temple. The temple was built on the already established statue of Chandi devi. Many festivals are celebrated here from Chandi chaudas, Navratra to the great kumbh mela.
It’s also a stop for the pilgrims. Haridwar has numerous shops along it’s streets selling all essentials that a pilgrim needs. Bada Bazar is great place to shop for wooden items and handicrafts.
Mansa devi temple
It’s one of the Siddhapeeths atop the Shivalik Hills. The mansa devi temple is dedicated to the companion of Nag King Vasuki, Goddess Mansa. The Goddess is said to grant all the wishes of it’s devotes.
Haridwar is the best pilgrimage destination. It’s an ancient city which holds religious sentiments of so many people across the globe. In the heart of North India’s Uttarakhand state lies this pious place.
